What do moms do anyway?

Moms RAISE UP society.

This is an uplifting phrase, a call to moms to take society to a higher level! Reminiscent of the traditional role of mothers to raise children, but expanded to ALL of society being elevated by the work mothers do. As an acronym, it is rich with more details of a mother’s mission!

Relationships

It is significant that the R comes first, for motherhood is, even at the cellular level, all about relationships! How the woman relates to her husband, her children, her God! (While fully embracing freedom of religion, we encourage mothers to have a solid, personal relationship with God.) All relationships require time and effort. Momivate leads moms to respected resources that contribute to successful relationships. We help moms “connect the dots” between knowing and applying these concepts in real life. Note: discipline is inseparably intertwined in the relationship between parent and child, and therefore, this major maternal role is included here.

ATMOSPHERE

Our homes are collections of sensations . . . an atmosphere—ideally, one that we’ve conscientiously determined we want and then put effort into creating. This can be broken down into the five senses (then that intangible sixth sense, also — the overall feeling!). We can organize our efforts by asking ourselves: what does my family see/hear/taste/smell/touch — and experience — in our home? From these answers, evaluate what needs to be adjusted so that our home is the haven we need for our mental and emotional well being.

INCOME & Outgo

Income & outgo: two sides of the same coin! Financial stability, achieved through firm foundational principles, contributes to familial stability, removing the stress of debt and giving a sense of security for provisions. Sometimes, mothers are involved in both the income AND the outgo aspects; sometimes, the main way the mother influences the family’s financial situation is through careful management of the outgo. Mothers can teach their children these same principles, setting up a family economy that allows children to learn important connections between work and money. These money-savvy children then grow up to be responsible adults who avoid debt and the related stress it triggers. Momivate can guide mothers in each of these aspects!

Systems & Schedules

Children crave the security of schedules and systems, and a mother’s sanity can be preserved as she employs these tools to manage her home and its inhabitants. From morning and bedtime routines to chores and a family technology plan, Systems and Schedules are like the rock walls of a castle, creating boundaries that offer safety and strength. Momivate encourages each mother to create structure based on her family’s unique needs.

Energy (eating, exercise & Sleep)

Moms need energy, which can be reaped through solid Eating, Exercise, and Sleep habits. Momivate encourages mothers to model effective energy habits to their children, since our offspring learn best from our example. Well-fed, well-slept children are generally better behaved!

On the surface, these appear to be elements of *physical* well-being, but the deeper benefits of *mental* health make them even more worthy of our time and effort!

Unique Circumstances

Each mother’s personal journey will have many unique or unusual struggles. Not every mom’s experience fits neatly into the imagined Mothering mold. We recognize and respect challenges included in adoption, raising a child with autism, step- or single-mothering, or other circumstances where special needs must be understood and accommodations made. Momivate helps mothers find others who are navigating similar situations so they can support one another in managing such life-altering conditions. We encourage moms to embrace principles that empower them to handle life and whatever it brings with it!

Personal Pursuits

Moms must not forget that we are people, too, with goals and talents that we want to develop! We often purposefully push our passions to the back burner, but we cannot dismiss these desires — doing so would be detrimental to ourselves as well as our loved ones, as we would be trying to serve them living water from empty wells. We must intentionally carve out time and energy to sharpen—and use—our saws!

Moms are powerful!

This acronym that intricately illustrates *how* Moms R.A.I.S.E. U.P. Society is powerful in that it is timeless! Moms have done these things for centuries, but they were encompassed in the mundane labor of taking laundry to the river or keeping the hearth fires burning.

Modern-day motherhood looks so very different from those menial chores —and we rejoice about that! We love the freedom of not being stuck at home (which is why Momivate uses the term “full-time mother” rather than “stay-at-home mom”). We are so well-educated, with limitless opportunities — a beautiful benefit of living in the present.

As we continue to R.A.I.S.E. U.P. society through these enduring elements of motherhood, we’re on a whole different playing field now! Though the objective remains the same, we must update the game’s operations to align with new boundaries and account for different instruments used in this novel sport! We must innovate!
